A weather station contains various instruments to help us measure and record the weather.

An anemometer measures the wind speed. It is measured in kilometres per hour (km/h).
A breeze is a gentle wind. A gale is a strong wind. A hurricane is a very strong wind.
A weather vane tells us the wind direction: north, south, east or west.
A rain gauge measures precipitation. This can be rain, snow or hail. It is measured in litres per square metre (l/m2).

The atmosphere has different layers
1.- The troposphere, which is the lower layer of the atmosphere.
1.- La troposfera es la capa más baja de la atmósfera.
In this layer we find water vapour and most of the oxygen we breathe.
En esta capa encontramos vapor de agua y gran parte del oxígeno que respiramos.
Weather occurs in this layer: rain, clouds and wind.
El tiempo ocurre en esta capa: lluvia, nubes y viento.
2.- The stratosphere, contains the ozone layer that protects us from the harmful rays of the Sun.
