VITAL FUNCTIONS / FUNCIONES VITALES

ALL LIVING THINGS CARRY OUT 3 VITAL FUNCTIONS: NUTRITION, INTERACTION AND REPRODUCTION.

LET´S WATCH SOME VIDEOS IN ENGLISH AND IN SPANISH ABOUT THIS.

AFTER WATCHING THESE TWO VIDEOS CAN YOU COMPLETE THIS MIND MAP?
LET´S START WITH NUTRITION

Nutrition is the process which provides your body with all the nutrients and energy that are necessary for life.

Processes involved in nutrition

PROCESOS QUE INTERVIENEN EN LA NUTRICIÓN:

Nutrition begins when you take in food.  It involves four processes:

Digestion. During this process, you absorb the nutrients your body needs from food.

Respiration. During respiration, you breathe in air. You need oxygen from air to obtain energy from food.

Circulation. Circulation moves oxygen and nutrients throughout your body.

Excretion. During excretion, you expel the waste materials that your body does not use.

Complete the mind map with the names of the 4 processes involved in nutrition.

THE PROCESS OF SENSITIVITY OR INTERACTION ( FUNCIÓN DE RELACIÓN)

The process of sensitivity is the ability to detect and respond to changes in the environment.

First, you receive information from your surroundings. This information comes from your senses. Then, your body processes the information and decides on a response. Finally, you carry out this response.

The process of sensitivity involves the sense organs, the nervous system and the locomotor system.

The nervous system

The nervous system is made up of the brain and the nerves.   The brain receives information from the sense organs. Then, the brain interprets this information and decides what to do. It sends the orders to the locomotor system.  The nerves have two main functions:

   –  They carry information from the sense organs to the brain.
  –  They carry orders from the brain to the locomotor system.

The locomotor system

The locomotor system allows us to move our body. It is made up of the skeletal system and the muscular system.

The skeletal system is made up of all the bones in our body. Bones meet at joints. Some joints allow bones to move.
The muscular system is made up of all the muscles in our body. Muscles are joined to bones by tendons. Tendons help our body to move.

The process of reproduction

The process of reproduction allows us to have offspring similar to ourselves. People have sexual reproduction. This means a male and a female have to come together to reproduce. Because of this, children usually look like their mother and father, although they are different to both of them.
